"I am an artist whose evocative work explores the beauty,
joy and wonder of our world."
About the Artist
As a self taught artist, I learned watercolor techniques from library books, DVD’s and watercolor magazines. Watercolor workshops taught by Eric Weigardt and Gary Buhler helped me develop my style and technique. Then while hiking in the parks, mountains, and gardens of the Pacific Northwest I discovered photography. Today I'm combining my two favorite things by taking photographs and then creating paintings from my growing library of floral and landscape photographs.
I transform my photographs into unique works of art using my computer. My photo paintings are rich and layered images celebrating the diversity of the natural world. I alter them to create a mystery and extend an invitation to the viewer to finish the path or complete the picture in their mind. My images feature both light and shadow. Some are reminiscent of an impressionist style with an "old world" feel; and on the flip side, some are abstract with bright primary colors.
It's not just about the transformation into a painting, it's also about taking the picture, and then painting it, so I've created it entirely. The computer allows me to paint in any medium from watercolor, pastel, oil, pen, chalk, to airbrush, colored pencil, or acrylic, etc. The finished photo painting looks as if I've painted a picture on a canvas.
Currently, I’m producing giclee prints on canvas that are museum wrapped, and ready to hang. These high fidelity prints are archival for up to 100 years. They were shown at the Beaverton Arts Commission’s “Last Tuesday” in July and September of 2007, in the juried Beaverton Arts Commission Showcase February, 2008, and in various venues in the Portland metro area.
A number of my photo paintings have been printed as greeting cards and are available to purchase, and can be found at art shows, galleries, and many retail stores in the Pacific Northwest. They can also be purchased here on my website on the "Greeting Cards" page.
I welcome the opportunity to discuss licensing my artwork from my extensive archives, as well as creative commissions.
